This page records our plans for the future and the environment in which we expect to work.
We believe our working environment will change dramatically in the next few years. We believe we will be ready for those changes. We believe the traditional values of honesty, integrity, hard work, value for money, and respect for others will still be appreciated.
Accountants are normally considered conservative by nature and we believe that we in this firm conform to this generalization. We are proud of our reputation and achievements in the past.
At the same time we recognize that the world is changing, and we will be near the forefront of that change.
We have a Windows NT4 network of computers running Windows 95, 98 and 2000. We manage the administration of this network ourselves because we believe we need to understand the configuration of a modern system in order to be able to talk to clients about their systems.
We use commercially written software for our specialist applications of Statutory Accounts and Tax Return preparation, but we maintain our own database on our own internally designed and maintained software.
We have consciously designed and implemented this web site in house because we believe we need to know how a web site is created. If you agree that this site achieves its purpose, we can now offer to help you design and implement a site for you - see Services.
We know that computers can create a disaster more quickly than any human ever has, but we know they are here to stay.
We believe that computers and the web will change the needs of our clients, and of their businesses.
We run a business. Accountants have not always emphasised that fact but our practice is a business. We are developing ARIES to satisfy our business requirements. Those requirements are similar to the requirements of many of our business clients. When it is launched, clients will be able to use the ARIES software which has been developed with their typical needs in mind.
We use Microsoft Word and Excel since the 1995 release for our word processing and spreadsheet requirements.
We use ARIES to control Word to record the filing for all our clients. Our clients, including prospective ones, are, like the customers of any business, with our suppliers, our Contacts. They all have an Account in our bookkeeping records and we extend that database to hold "Contact Manager" information. By entering the first few letters of a Contacts name we bring his account onto the screen, together with a history of letters written to the client, and Word displays the letter on screen at request.
ARIES has the potential to link to most digital telephone systems. The Contact manager will be not only be able to dial out, but will recognise an incoming call and locate the appropriate Contact record.
We have plans to provide ARIES over the Internet. We expect Internet band width to increase dramatically which will mean much faster file transfers. We can foresee clients who currently have no computer facilities using our software to generate their records, and transferring files to us at the end of an accounting period over the Internet.
With video conferencing over the Internet our client base may expand over a wide geographical area, but as people our personalities and requirements will take a long time to change.
