Michael is married to Alison. They have two adult children, Sarah and Natalie, both of whom have left home. Sarah has a young daughter Bethany which makes him a grandfather.
He joined the firm in 1967. He was Articled to Chick Fowles who had founded the firm in 1963. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1973 and became a Partner in 1977.
He is a member of the Tax, Audit and Information Technology Faculties of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
He has spent all his working life in one office, but he may have had more variety of work than some who have changed jobs frequently. He has been involved in bookkeeping, accounts preparation, auditing, tax computations, tax advice, tax negotiation, computing, staff relations, budgeting, planning and management decisions. Charities, care homes, farming, manufacturing, medical profession, oil industry, retailing, subcontracting, wholesaling are some of the areas he has advised on.
He is a member of the Rotary Club of Thanet, the International Federation of Motorcycling Rotarians, East Kent Advanced Motorcyclists, East Kent Group of Advanced Motorists, Institute of Advanced Motorists , Thanet Archery Club and Arjays Ten Pin bowling team (average 145 but improving).
As well as motorcycling, archery, and ten-pin bowling, he occasionally plays green bowls and intends to take up golf as soon as time allows. Previous interests have included making and flying model aircraft, slope soarers and boats. Much of his spare time is now occupied developing business software.
Michael is the firm's Investment Business Compliance Partner and Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
