Effective communication modifies the attitude or behaviour of the audience.

It is more than getting a message across, if your audience hear the message but are not affected by it in a way that you want, your effort will have been wasted.

If you understand your potential audience, your words will not go over their heads and be ignored.  Who are your audience and what are they expecting to hear?

What message do you want to convey?  Can you establish some common ground?  Can we agree that visitors to this site want to save tax or earn more money, and that we as accountants have specialist knowledge which may help achieve those aims?

Will your visits to this site help your life in any way?  Will you contact us for professional advice tailored to your needs?

Effective communication can be a formal presentation to 20 or 2000 people, or an informal meeting with a few people.  Paradoxically, informal meetings may be the trickiest because they do not appear to need planning.

In one survey 76% of people in business said that standing up and speaking in public was the most daunting thing to do in business life.  Every business meeting involves speaking in public.

If you are asked to think of a "blue elephant" you will probably do so.  If I now ask you not to think of a "blue elephant", what is the first thought that comes to your mind?  Have you ever said to a child "Do not drop that plate (etc.)"?  Your message might be more effective if you say "Please hold that plate level and firm".
